B-2 Visas

For individuals visiting the U.S. for recreational activities such as tourism, visiting friends or family, rest, and medical treatment.

Eligibility:

• Must maintain a foreign residence and intend to return at the end of the stay.
• Not authorized to work or perform productive employment in the U.S.

Application Process & Duration:

• Application made directly at a U.S. consulate or embassy.
• Admitted for up to 1 year, typically up to 6 months initially.
• Extensions may be granted in increments of up to 6 months, but prolonged stays may raise issues of employment or immigrant intent. (Some may need to apply for a visa instead.)
